Merlin has designed a unique dual purpose simulator for the University of Leeds
Merlin Flight Simulation Group has just delivered an MP521X simulator to The School of Process and Environmental Engineering at Leeds University.
This new simulator has the capability of a CAA qualified FNPT1 device, combined with the flight software of an Engineering Flight Simulator, thus enabling not only use by courses with a PPL requirement, but by combining Merlin's Excalibur flight software the simulator will also be used for the teaching/research of aircraft design.
The MP521X compirses a single seat aircraft style capsule mounted on a Hydraudyne six axis hydraulic motion system. The aircraft configured for FNPT1 purposes is a low wing piston single engine type.
Cockpit instruments are LCD displays, and the three LCD visual display written by Virtalis, provides peripheral visual cueing and height cues. The visual display includes models of Leeds Bradford, Gatwick and Heathrow Airports.'
