'The latest development from Merlin is the MP521X - a unique innovative design which combines the attributes of an FNPT1 with the MP521 Engineering Flight Simulator.
The MP521X is the result of two years market research and development work at Merlin.
Ideal for universities running both aeronautical and engineering courses offering a PPL qualification, the MP521X has two distinct software loads:-
- Enables students/researchers to change the aerodynamics/instrumentation, to enable real world assessment of projects/research using Merlin's GUI or user developed source code.
- Embodies the type/class certification load for the FNPT1 associated activities.
The FNPT1 software load will be 'locked' in compliance with JAR quality requirements.
The cockpit hardware will be common, which will be an advantage since the radio stack and navigation based software can be made available to the Engineering Simulator configuration.
Moreover, the MP521X may be purchased as an MP521, and the FNPT1 related upgrade be included later when funds may become available.'
